Northeast Radio News SD - Watertown, SD - On Tuesday, September 9, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a report of a stove fire at a two-story, two-unit residence located at 103 4th Street Southeast. The call came in at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed moderate smoke coming from the main floor of the home. Crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the residence. Firefighters then used positive-pressure fans to clear the remaining smoke from the building.
The department remained on scene for about one hour to check for fire extension and perform an overhaul of the area. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and all occupants of the home had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire is currently listed as undetermined and remains under investigation.
Watertown Fire Rescue used the opportunity to remind residents about the importance of fire safety, especially when cooking, which is the leading cause of residential fires. The department also noted that with Fire Prevention Week being observed in October, it is a good time to check that all smoke detectors are in proper working order.
