Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Today, February 19, marks Destination Professionals Day, a global nod to the behind-the-scenes experts who turn local culture into economic growth. To celebrate, Visit Watertown has announced a strategic move into the heart of the city’s historic district: the former Maud’s space inside the Goss Opera House.

A Strategic Step Downtown

The relocation is more than just a change of scenery; it’s about visibility and community connection. The Goss Opera House is a landmark of local history and creativity—the exact kind of experience the tourism board invites visitors to explore.

"There’s something meaningful about working inside a space we actively promote," said Anjelica Uthe, Executive Director of Visit Watertown. "Being located there reflects both the energy happening downtown and our commitment to the entire Watertown community".

Jamie Mack, Executive Director of the Goss Opera House, noted that the transition allows the Goss to focus on its core mission while strengthening a partnership that benefits the entire downtown area.

The Impact of "Behind-the-Scenes" Work

While many see tourism as just "marketing," Uthe emphasizes that the work is deeply strategic. The Visit Watertown team—a small but mighty group of three—manages:

·        Leisure Travel: Attracting families and individuals for weekend getaways.

·        Event Recruitment: Securing meetings and sporting events that fill local hotels.

·        Community Vitality: Supporting the restaurants, retailers, and public services that depend on visitor spending.

Meet the Team

The move marks a chapter of "forward momentum" for the organization, which has recently focused on long-term planning and closer alignment with Watertown's broader community goals. The current staff includes:

·        Anjelica Uthe: Executive Director.

·        Lindsay Stangl: Director of Business Development.

·        Emily Johnson: Marketing Coordinator.
