Brookings County Deputies Respond to Fireworks-Caused Grass Fire and Non-Injury Rollover

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate incidents on Tuesday, June 30, according to a media release from Investigations Sergeant Thomas Chester.
Grass Fire Near Prairie Park Court
Deputies and the Aurora Fire Department were dispatched at 3:08 p.m. to a grass fire in the 100 block of Prairie Park Court in Aurora. Responders arrived to find a small grass fire that had spread along a roadway. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames.
The cause was determined to be a firework that landed in tall grass, sparking the fire. Damage estimates are still being compiled. No charges are pending, and deputies provided reminders to nearby residents about fireworks safety.
Non‑Injury Rollover Near 213th Street
Later that evening, at 8:47 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office, Elkton Fire Department, Elkton Ambulance, and South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to a single‑vehicle rollover on 213th Street near 485th Avenue.
A 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Kyra Jensen, 15, of Brookings, left the roadway, entered a ditch, and rolled. Jensen was evaluated at the scene and released. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
