Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings, SD - A six‑year‑old girl was injured Wednesday afternoon in a car–bicycle collision at a Brookings intersection, according to reporting from Brookings Radio.

Brookings Police say the crash happened Sept. 2 shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Medary Avenue South and Fifth Street South. The girl had been riding her bicycle eastbound and entered the intersection just as an 18‑year‑old man driving a pickup was making a left turn.

Police say the driver attempted to swerve to avoid the cyclist but struck the bicycle with the passenger side of his vehicle. The girl was taken to Brookings Hospital and later airlifted to Sioux Falls for further treatment.

Brookings Police continue to investigate the crash.
