City Announces Final Days for 4th Avenue Yard Waste Drop-Off Site

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown has announced the final operational dates for the 4th Avenue Yard Waste Drop-Off Site, set to close after Wednesday, November 26, 2025, assuming favorable weather conditions. Residents are urged to use the site soon, as early winter weather could necessitate an earlier closure.
4th Avenue Site Details
The drop-off site is conveniently located near 700 4th Avenue SW, two blocks east of Municipal Utilities.
· Final Operating Date: Wednesday, November 26, 2025 (Weather permitting)
· Hours of Operation: Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Acceptable Materials:
To ensure compliance, residents should only bring the following materials:
· Grass clippings and leaves: Grass clippings and leaves in containers or paper bags only (no loose loads and no plastic bags)
· Branches (must be under 6 inches in diameter and 6 inches in length).
· Prohibited Items: Stumps, lumber, and construction wood are strictly prohibited.
Loads of loose yard waste that will require shoveling to unload must be taken to the Watertown Regional Landfill.
Watertown Regional Landfill Option
The Watertown Regional Landfill remains another option for residents to dispose of yard waste and larger tree branches at no charge.
· Landfill Hours: Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
· Requirements: To utilize the free drop-off service, residents must bring a current residential utility bill and ensure all loads are properly secured before transport.
The City notes that the free branch drop-off program at the Landfill will end simultaneously with the closure of the 4th Avenue site for the season. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly for the disposal of their remaining fall yard waste.
