Early Morning Accident Requires Extrication After Pickup Collides with Semi

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) units responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on the morning of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck.


At approximately 6:30 a.m., WFR was dispatched to the 200 block of 20th Ave SE following reports of the collision. Responding units included Engine 4, Medic 4, and Medic 5.


Upon arrival, fire crews found a severe scene, noting "severe damage" to the pickup truck involved in the crash. Due to the extent of the damage, crews were immediately required to deploy the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from the heavily damaged pickup successfully.


WFR crews remained on scene for a significant period, clearing the area and completing the rescue operations. The total time on site was approximately one hour and 30 minutes.


The prompt response and decisive action by WFR personnel ensured that the trapped individual was quickly freed and provided with necessary care.


The incident serves as a crucial reminder for drivers to exercise caution, especially during early morning commutes when roads may be slippery or frost-covered.
