Elkton Kitchen Grease Fire Near 486th Avenue Under Investigation by Brookings County Sheriff’s Office

Northeast Radio SD News – Elkton, SD - The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says a kitchen grease fire prompted a response Monday night at a residence near the intersection of 486th Avenue and 209th Street.


Deputies, along with the Elkton Fire Department and Elkton Ambulance, were dispatched around 9:42 p.m. on July 27. When units arrived, the fire had already been extinguished.


Investigators say the fire started from a pot of grease in the kitchen. One of the tenants was able to remove the pot before the flames caused additional damage.


A damage estimate has not yet been finalized. The incident remains under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
