Fatal Head-on Crash East of Volga Claims One Life

Northeast Radio SD News - Volga, SD - One man was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle, head-on crash that occurred Friday evening on US Highway 14, two miles east of Volga.


The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:17 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, near mile marker 415.


Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 50-year-old male from Arlington, S.D., was traveling westbound in the passing lane. At the same time, a 2013 Ford Edge, driven by a 20-year-old male from Brookings, S.D., was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.


The two vehicles collided head-on and came to rest in the westbound lanes of US 14.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford Edge sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Brookings Hospital. According to the release, both drivers were wearing seat belts.


The names of the individuals involved have not been released, pending notification of their family members.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and all released information is preliminary.
