Fatal Motorcycle Crash East of Hot Springs

Northeast Radio SD News – Hot Springs, SD - A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Hot Springs man Friday evening after the bike struck a deer on US Highway 18.
The incident occurred around 7:04 p.m. near mile marker 44, approximately four miles east of Hot Springs. According to preliminary reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2007 Harley-Davidson Night Train was traveling westbound when a deer entered the roadway. The motorcycle collided with the animal and tipped over, ejecting both riders to the ground.
The driver, a 62-year-old male from Hot Springs, sustained fatal injuries and was transported to a Rapid City hospital, where he later died. His passenger, a 43-year-old female also from Hot Springs, was taken to Fall River Health Services with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of family members. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate. All details remain preliminary.
