Northeast Radio SD News – Minot, ND/Watertown, SD - The Watertown Figure Skate Club (WFSC) returned from the Magic City International Skate Competition in Minot this weekend with a haul of gold medals and a growing roster of athletes headed to the national stage.
From historic debuts to individual triumphs, the club’s performance marked a significant milestone for figure skating in Watertown.

A Historic Debut for “Theatre on Ice”
In a first for the club’s history, the WFSC Toepick Ice Production Intermediate Theatre on Ice Team competed in the Theatre on Ice category. Performing their Choreographic Exercise (CE) program, the team earned a Gold Medal and received high praise during a formal critique session with competition officials.
The Club commended the skaters for their storytelling, teamwork, and commitment to the program. “Hearing their thoughtful and encouraging feedback was a meaningful moment for the team,” the club shared. “It validated every practice and every ounce of effort poured into this program.”
The success didn’t stop with the production team; the WFSC Ensemble Team also debuted a brand-new routine on the first day of the competition, securing another Gold Medal for the club.

Three Skaters Punch Tickets to Nationals
While the teams were busy collecting gold in Minot, three individual WFSC skaters delivered standout performances to qualify for the 2026 National Showcase in Denver, Colorado. Each athlete qualified with a distinct style, showcasing the club’s versatility:
· Savannah Sovell: Bringing humor to the ice, Sovell qualified with a comedic impression routine set to “Like a Surgeon.” Her parody performance, complete with “scalpel jokes,” left the judges in stitches and earned her a spot in Denver.
· Lily Musielewicz: Moving the audience in a different direction, Musielewicz qualified with an “emotional performance” routine. Her powerful and moving display of passion on the ice was noted by the club as “truly unforgettable.”
· Shaylee Helle: Rounding out the national qualifiers, Helle punched her ticket with a character performance routine inspired by Matilda. Her dedication and technical precision during the routine solidified her place among the nation’s best.
Looking Ahead
The WFSC community is rallying behind its skaters as they prepare for the 2026 National Showcase. With history-making performances in Minot and a strong contingent heading to Denver, the club continues to elevate its presence on the regional and national skating scene.
“What an unforgettable day of growth, confidence, and history-making for this team,” the club stated following the weekend’s events.
