Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Interstate 29 has been reopened from Watertown to the North Dakota state line as of 7 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025. However, motorists are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, as road conditions in this section of I-29 remain severely icy.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation is warning travelers that icy conditions are expected to persist throughout northeastern South Dakota today and into Thursday, November 27. Cold temperatures are limiting melting, making refreezing on roadways highly likely.

Adding to the challenging road conditions are strong winds, with gusts anticipated to exceed 30 mph this afternoon. These strong crosswinds will create additional difficulties for motorists, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, who are advised to use extra caution when traveling.

Drivers planning to use I-29 or other routes in the region should anticipate slow travel and allow significantly more time to reach their destinations. Travelers are encouraged to check the latest road condition updates before departing.
