Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown School Board approved a variety of contract recommendations, including staff additions for a growing extracurricular program and the launch of a new student activity at Lake Area Technical College (LATC).

The board approved the recommendation to hire an additional coach for the LATC competitive trap shooting team, bringing the total number of coaches to four. The expansion is necessary due to the high level of student participation.

LATC Vice President Cam Cory noted that the trap shooting program has the largest participation of any competitive activity at the college, with approximately 55 students currently practicing. The team practices at a local trap and skeet club just west of town and competes against other colleges, including South Dakota State University (SDSU) and Dordt University.

Music Program Established

In response to student requests, the board also approved contracts to establish a chorus program at LATC.

The new chorus program is already active, with about a dozen students participating. The group has already scheduled several performances, including a potential concert during the holidays, a performance at the Festival of Trees, and an appearance at a future graduation ceremony.
