Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown Area PACH program is gearing up for its annual May Day Food Drive, a two‑day community effort aimed at stocking shelves ahead of the busy summer season. Donations will be collected on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, at multiple locations across the city.
The drive begins Friday, May 1, from 8:30–10:00 a.m. at Watertown Radio, where volunteers will accept non‑perishable food items and monetary contributions. Collections continue Saturday, May 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at County Fair, Hy‑Vee, and Walmart.
Organizers say the May Day event is critical for preparing weekend food packs distributed to local children during the summer months. PACH (People Against Child Hunger) provides supplemental meals to students who may otherwise face food insecurity when school is not in session.
Requested Donation Items
PACH has released a list of preferred items to help standardize food packs:
· Canned vegetables (15 oz)
· Peanut butter (16 oz)
· Mac & cheese
· Spaghetti O’s or ravioli
· Microwave popcorn
· 4 oz fruit cups (not canned fruit)
· Pudding cups (not instant)
· Individual cheese or peanut butter crackers
· Snack crackers
· Granola bars
· Chicken noodle or tomato soup (10.75 oz)
Monetary donations are also accepted. Checks should be made payable to Watertown Area PACH.
The May Day Food Drive is organized in partnership with the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce. More information is available at www.watertownsd.com or by contacting the Chamber office.
