Northeast Radio SD News – Minneapolis, MN - Federal authorities announced charges against Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, 28, following an investigation into a string of violent kidnappings and sexual assaults in Minnesota dating back to 2017. The charges, detailed in a criminal complaint, include Kidnapping a Minor and Kidnapping.

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen made the announcement, detailing allegations that Mohamed kidnapped and raped a 15-year-old girl in 2017 and an adult woman in 2025, with at least three other women allegedly raped in the intervening years.

Details of the Allegations

The federal investigation, launched on December 3, 2025, quickly established probable cause to believe Mohamed committed several disturbing sexual assaults, some of which were gang rapes, against at least five victims between 2017 and 2025. Many of the alleged crimes followed a similar pattern, often involving the suspect meeting victims online, on platforms like Snapchat and Instagram, before picking them up in a car and driving them to an unauthorized location against their will.

The criminal complaint outlines several specific incidents:

·        December 2017 (Minor Victim 1): Mohamed and two others allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl after meeting her on Snapchat. The victim had reportedly been threatened at gunpoint. In 2024, DNA taken from Mohamed was matched to evidence collected from the victim.

·        Early 2018 (Victim 2): Mohamed’s DNA was allegedly matched to a condom recovered at the scene of an alleged rape of an adult woman whom the suspect had picked up after meeting him on Instagram.

·        May 2018 (Victim 3): An adult woman, who knew Mohamed from Snapchat, was allegedly kidnapped when Mohamed drove her away after she entered his car. Mohamed reportedly raped her and was then sexually assaulted by a second man at gunpoint. DNA evidence was later matched to Mohamed.

·        May 2024 (Victim 4): Mohamed allegedly raped an adult woman in his apartment after threatening her with a gun, telling her he would shoot her or her sister if she did not comply. Police located the victim and Mohamed at the apartment after the victim’s sister called authorities.

·        September 2025 (Victim 5): An adult woman was allegedly kidnapped by Mohamed in Mankato, driven approximately 70 miles to a hotel in Bloomington, and held for nearly a week. During this time, she was allegedly raped twice and choked. She ultimately escaped and notified a bystander, who called the police.

Federal Officials Comment

Attorney General Pamela Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche issued sharp statements regarding the case, specifically referencing what they described as “left-wing soft-on-crime policies” and “vetting failures” in Minnesota that allegedly allowed the suspect to continue his pattern of offenses.

“This Somali national in Minnesota is charged with raping a minor and multiple adult women before being detained—only to be quickly released by a local court, after which he committed yet another rape,” stated Attorney General Bondi.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche asserted that Minnesota’s policies “created an environment where predators believe they can act without consequence.”

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen indicated that his office would “aggressively prosecute this serial rapist,” citing the history of the state prosecution of Mohamed.

Penalties and Investigation

Mohamed faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison and up to life if convicted on the federal charges.

The case results from an investigation conducted by the FBI, in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), and multiple local police departments, including Minneapolis, Roseville, Bloomington, St. Louis Park, St. Paul, and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

The FBI is continuing its investigation into the offenses detailed in the complaint and is looking into additional potential sexual crimes. The FBI urges anyone who believes they, their child, or someone they know may be a victim of Abdimahat Bille Mohamed to call the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
