Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown announced Tuesday that mosquito spraying will take place Wednesday evening, July 8, in the southwest quadrant of the city, after adult mosquito counts reached the threshold for treatment.

According to the city’s Mosquito Control Program, spraying will occur after 9:00 p.m., weather permitting, in the area south of 3rd Avenue North and west of Broadway.

The PSA notes: “The adult mosquito population has been determined to be sufficient to trigger spraying in the following area of Watertown: Southwest Watertown: South of 3rd Avenue North and West of Broadway.”

Safety Recommendations for Residents

While the mosquito adulticide used is considered a relatively safe material, the city advises residents to take basic precautions during and shortly after spraying:

·         Stay indoors during spraying if possible

·         Keep children and pets inside for about an hour afterward

·         Rinse homegrown fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating

The city will continue monitoring mosquito activity and weather conditions to determine future spraying needs.
