Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Area United Way has announced that registration is officially open for the Spring 2026 season of Girls on the Run (GOTR).
This season, the program is calling on local girls to become “Mountain Movers” by joining a curriculum designed to build confidence, resilience, and life skills.
Program Details: The upcoming season will be held at the Watertown McKinley Early Childhood Center.
· Dates: March 12 – May 7
· Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Girls on the Run is more than just a running club; it features lessons focused on what matters most to young girls. Participants will develop tools to manage difficult emotions, embrace their inner strength, and make meaningful connections with others. The season culminates in a celebratory event where participants complete a 5K and apply the “stick-with-it” strategies they learned throughout the program.
Registration and Financial Aid
The program fee is $105.00 (plus tax), but organizers emphasize that financial barriers should not prevent participation. An income-based sliding fee scale is available during registration, and families can apply for additional financial assistance through a scholarship application on the website.
Support from the Watertown Area United Way helps fund this, ensuring every child has the opportunity to discover their “I Can!” power.
Call for Coaches: The program is also actively seeking volunteer coaches. Organizers stress that you do not have to be a runner to coach. The commitment is once a week, and training and materials are provided. It is an opportunity for adults to mentor girls and help them build the confidence to do hard things.
How to Join
Registration is open now, but spots are limited. Parents can register their children or apply for scholarships at embe.org/gotr.
