Northeast Radio SD News – Roberts County, SD - A traffic stop on Interstate 29 turned into a fourth‑offense DUI investigation Friday morning after a Roberts County Sheriff’s Deputy clocked a vehicle traveling 94 mph in an 80‑mph zone, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
After stopping the vehicle, the deputy reported noticing signs that alcohol might be involved. The driver denied drinking and told the deputy that two cups in the center console contained Pepsi. A preliminary breath test was later administered, showing a .198% blood‑alcohol concentration, the Sheriff’s Office said.
During a search of the vehicle, the deputy located a bottle of vodka that was approximately one‑third consumed. According to the report, one cup contained Pepsi mixed with vodka, while the other contained only vodka.
The Sheriff’s Office said the situation escalated further when the deputy discovered the driver had urinated on the driver’s seat while conducting the search.
The driver was arrested for DUI and transported to the Roberts County Jail. The investigation indicated the driver has three prior DUI convictions within the past 10 years.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that all criminal charges are allegations and that the driver is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The agency added a reminder to the public: don’t drink and drive, and take care of one another.
The office also added a disclaimer for their “Friday’s Finest”:
“Friday’s Finest Decisions is intended to add a little humor to our page while giving the public a glimpse into the sometimes strange, unpredictable, and occasionally messy reality our deputies encounter on the job.
We also want to be clear: in no way is this post intended to make light of addiction, alcoholism, or the very real challenges faced by people and families struggling with substance use. Behind the humor are real people, real families, and situations that can have very serious consequences.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help. There are resources available, and asking for help can be the first step toward changing the direction you’re headed.”
