Snow Emergency Declared: Watertown Crews Hit the Streets for Cleanup

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Winter has made its presence known, and the City of Watertown Street Division has officially declared a Snow Emergency as of February 28, 2026. Public works crews are already on the job to ensure the safety and accessibility of city roadways.


The Street Division has released a phased schedule to manage snow removal across different zones. Residents are encouraged to check the city’s color-coded map online to confirm which zone they reside in.


Plowing and Sanding Schedule

Crews are currently prioritizing Highways and Emergency Snow Routes. Work on these primary paths will continue until the snow stops falling.


Saturday, February 28th

·        12:00 PM (Noon): Plowing begins for all roadways (streets and avenues) in the North, East, South, and Lake Zones.

·        12:00 PM (Noon): In the Central Zone, crews will begin clearing Avenues ONLY.

Monday, March 2nd

·        1:00 AM: The Downtown Zone will be cleared, including all streets, avenues, and alleys.


o   Note to Business Owners: All curbside sidewalks in the Downtown Zone must be cleared by 1:00 AM.

·        5:00 AM: Crews will return to the Central Zone to clear Streets ONLY.

Parking Restrictions and Enforcement

To allow plows to work efficiently, a No Parking order is in effect for all listed areas until snow removal is complete. Vehicles left on the street during scheduled plowing times are subject to ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense.

While the city aims to stick to this timeline, the Street Superintendent may adjust the schedule to prioritize emergency routes if snow accumulation or wind conditions worsen.
