Two Drivers Cited for Racing and Excessive Speed Near Lake Norden

Northeast Radio SD News – Lake Norden, SD - The Hamlin County Sheriff's Office stopped two vehicles engaged in street racing Saturday evening, with drivers recorded traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour.


On Saturday, November 22, 2025, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted traffic stops on two vehicles that were observed racing on SD Highway 28 between the towns of Lake Norden and Bryant.


Deputies clocked the vehicles traveling at excessive speeds, with recorded speeds ranging from 90 mph to 106 mph while racing on the public highway.


The drivers—a 19-year-old man from Hazel and a 19-year-old man from Lake Norden—were both issued citations for Speeding and Drag Racing on a Highway.


The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that street racing poses significant dangers to all motorists and the community. The Sheriff's Office urges anyone who observes dangerous driving to call 911 immediately.
