Watertown Announces Multiple Road Closures as Construction Projects Advance

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown has issued an update on several ongoing construction projects that will affect traffic patterns throughout the community this week.
City officials report that Fifth Avenue North remains closed from 5th Street East (US Highway 81) to Skyline Drive for a full roadway reconstruction project. Beginning Wednesday, May 27, the intersection of 5th Avenue North and 3rd Street NW will also close for approximately one day.
During this temporary closure, Broadway Street will serve as the primary route through the construction zone. Other intersections along 5th Avenue North will remain open only for local landowner access. By Friday, May 29, both Broadway Street and 3rd Street NW will function as the main detour routes. The city will announce additional intersection closures as the project progresses.
Municipal Utilities Water Main Work Continues
Watertown Municipal Utilities is also advancing its water main replacement project, resulting in several additional closures:
2nd Street NW from 6th Avenue N to 10th Avenue N — closed this week
3rd Street E from 10th Avenue N to Highland Blvd — reopening by Friday, May 29
Karen Street from Crestview to 12th Avenue N — closed through the end of May
2nd Street NE from 10th Avenue N to 11th Avenue N — closed through the end of May, with reopening expected in early June
Drivers traveling near any construction area are urged to follow posted signs and obey directions from flaggers.
