Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown is asking contractors to stop roadway digging beginning Oct. 31 as seasonal conditions end asphalt work, according to a public service announcement the Street Division issued Wednesday.

With the asphalt hot mix plant shutting down for the winter, regular patching and paving will pause until spring. Only emergency repairs—such as fixing broken water or sewer lines—and projects with prior approval will be allowed during the cold-weather months.

Contractors who must dig in a roadway must maintain the trench throughout winter and obtain a permit from the city. In some cases, the Street Superintendent may require a temporary concrete patch to keep roads smooth and safe for drivers.

Residents may see temporary patches or construction areas remain in place until warmer weather returns. Any home or business project that requires roadway excavation, including new utility connections, must have proper permits and comply with seasonal rules.

For questions, contact the Street Division at 605-882-6207.
