Watertown Optimist Club Grant Supports Youth Trap Shooting Program at Watertown Trap and Skeet

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown Optimist Club has awarded a $500 grant to the Watertown Trap and Skeet to help expand opportunities for local youth involved in the organization’s trap shooting program.

The funding will be used to purchase shooting rounds and clay targets for area youth participating in trap league. Trap shooting continues to be one of the nation’s fastest‑growing youth sports, emphasizing responsibility, focus, discipline, and firearm safety in a fully supervised environment.

Philip Mittleider, board member of the Watertown Trap and Skeet, said the support directly strengthens access for young shooters.

“We appreciate the Watertown Optimist Club’s support of our youth trap program. This grant helps make it possible for more young people to participate while developing skills and confidence that will benefit them throughout their lives.”

The Watertown Optimist Club’s mission, “Bringing Out the Best in Kids,” guides its efforts to invest in youth‑focused programs across the community. Club President Val Engels said supporting organizations like Watertown Trap and Skeet aligns closely with that purpose.

“We are honored to support the Watertown Trap and Skeet and the outstanding opportunities they provide for our youth. Helping young people grow through positive experiences is at the heart of what our club does.”

The Watertown Optimist Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from September through May, and on the 2nd Thursday during the summer. The club welcomes new members who are passionate about making a positive impact on local youth.
