19-Year-Old Brookings Man Killed in Four-Vehicle Crash on I-29 North of Brookings

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings, SD - A 19‑year‑old Brookings man was killed early Thursday morning in a four‑vehicle crash on Interstate 29, according to reporting from Brookings Radio and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash happened shortly before 6:00 a.m. at mile marker 140, about seven miles north of Brookings. The Highway Patrol says a 38‑year‑old woman from Toronto was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when her vehicle struck a pickup driven by the 19‑year‑old victim.
The impact caused the victim’s truck to spin and collide with a second pickup driven by a 34‑year‑old man from Ohio. A fourth vehicle — an SUV driven by a 25‑year‑old Brookings man — was also traveling northbound and became involved in the crash.
The 19‑year‑old Brookings man sustained fatal injuries. The Toronto woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital with life‑threatening injuries. The other two drivers were not injured.
Emergency response included the Brookings Fire Department, which sent two engines and a rescue truck, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, which assisted at the scene.
Names of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
