2 Hospitalized, Including 13-Year-Old, After Two-Vehicle Crash on SD Highway 30 Near I-29 in Brookings County

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - A two-vehicle collision on South Dakota Highway 30 near the Interstate 29 interchange left two people hospitalized on Thursday afternoon, including a 13-year-old passenger.


The crash occurred at approximately 1:42 p.m. on June 25, 2026, drawing a large multi-agency emergency response. According to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, personnel from the White Fire Department, Brookings Fire Department, White Ambulance, and Brookings Ambulance were all dispatched to the scene.


Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 65-year-old Tamara Johnson of Brookings, was entering SD Hwy 30 from Interstate 29 when the collision occurred. The second vehicle, a 2022 Kia Telluride driven by 32-year-old Morgan Brown, also of Brookings, was traveling westbound on SD Hwy 30 at the time of the crash.


Brown was traveling with two juvenile passengers in the Kia, identified as a 13-year-old and a 1.5-year-old.


Following the collision, Johnson and the 13-year-old passenger from Brown’s vehicle were transported by ambulance to Brookings Hospital. The current status and extent of their injuries remain unknown at this time.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front and structural damage. Law enforcement estimates the damage to Johnson’s Jeep Cherokee at $22,400, while damage to Brown’s Kia Telluride is estimated at $27,982.
