Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown Public Works Department has announced new traffic changes tied to ongoing 2026 street construction projects, including a significant closure beginning Wednesday morning.
According to the city’s Engineering Division, 3rd Street NW will close to traffic starting July 8, and the closure is expected to last for an extended period as contractors work in the area.
The update is part of the Neighborhood Street Reconstruction Project on 5th Avenue North, where the roadway is already closed from Highway 81 to Skyline Drive. Despite the new closure, the North Broadway and 5th Avenue intersection will remain open.
The PSA notes: “Traffic routes will continue to change as work progresses… timing may shift due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.”
Cross Streets to Stay Open When Possible
Contractors will keep cross streets open whenever feasible to help maintain traffic flow. Drivers are urged to follow posted signs and directions from flaggers when traveling near construction zones.
