ABA President Michelle A. Behnke to Headline USD Knudson School of Law’s Annual Thurgood Marshall Lecture

Northeast Radio SD News - Vermillion, SD - The University of South Dakota’s Knudson School of Law has announced that Michelle A. Behnke, President of the American Bar Association (ABA), will deliver the keynote address at the annual Thurgood Marshall Lecture on Feb. 25.

The event, hosted in partnership with the USD Black Law Students Association and the Student Bar Association, will begin at noon in the Knudson School of Law Courtroom on the Vermillion campus.

A Legacy of Leadership

The Thurgood Marshall Lecture is a cornerstone event for the university, celebrating the enduring legacy of the first African American U.S. Supreme Court Justice. Justice Marshall’s career was defined by his commitment to civil rights, principled advocacy, and the rule of law—values that continue to shape the legal profession today.

This year’s distinguished speaker, Michelle A. Behnke, exemplifies those same standards of service. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Behnke has dedicated decades to the legal field. Her extensive leadership includes pivotal roles in the ABA House of Delegates and various professional and civic organizations.

Bridging History and the Future of Law

During the lecture, Behnke will reflect on her personal path to leadership and the critical role professional institutions play in shaping modern law. Her presentation will also explore how individuals can actively participate in strengthening the legal profession.
