Armed Homeowner Thwarts Early Morning Break-In Attempt in Arlington

Northeast Radio SD News – Arlington, SD - In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 1:29 a.m., law enforcement responded to an attempted break-in at a residence in Arlington.
The incident took place on the 100 Block of East Birch Street. According to the homeowner, he and his wife were awakened by the sound of someone kicking their front door. The homeowner armed himself and went to investigate, where he found an individual actively kicking and punching the door.
He reportedly warned the person that he was armed and ordered them to stop. The suspect, described as wearing dark clothing, then fled into the darkness.
A Brookings County deputy arrived on the scene shortly afterward and conducted a search of the immediate area. Kingsbury County deputies subsequently joined the search effort, but no suspect was found.
There were no injuries reported during the incident. The front door sustained damage estimated at $500. Responding agencies included the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident remains under active investigation by the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office.
