Belle Fourche Woman Dies in Edmunds County Crash; Webster Man Among the Injured

Northeast Radio SD News – Edmunds County, SD - A Belle Fourche woman was killed and two others sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 12 on Thursday evening, approximately eight miles west of Roscoe.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported the fatal incident occurred at 8:12 p.m. near mile marker 241.
Preliminary crash information indicates a 63-year-old female from Belle Fourche was driving a 2003 Toyota Highlander eastbound when a deer entered the roadway. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, swerved to avoid the animal but struck it. The collision caused the Highlander to cross the centerline and collide with an oncoming 2018 GMC Sierra traveling in the westbound lane.
The driver of the Toyota Highlander sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 19-year-old male from Webster, S.D., sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the Sierra, a 19-year-old male from Federalsburg, M.D., also sustained minor injuries. Both the driver and passenger in the Sierra were wearing seat belts.
The names of the individuals involved have not been released pending notification of family members. The South Dakota Highway Patrol, an agency of the Department of Public Safety, is continuing to investigate the crash. All information released at this time is preliminary.
