Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - On Sunday, June 14, 2026, a 25-year-old Watertown man was arrested following a high-speed crash that totaled four vehicles and damaged a local residence.

At approximately 1:02 a.m., Watertown Fire Rescue and the Watertown Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 800 block of 12th Avenue NW. According to the media release provided by Corporal Black, the 25-year-old driver was traveling northbound on 8th Street NW in a 2011 BMW 535 at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a left turn onto 8th Avenue NW.

The BMW left the roadway, striking a mobile home, miscellaneous items of private property, and three unoccupied vehicles:

·        A 2012 Hyundai Genesis

·        A 2006 Chrysler Pacifica

·        A 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle

The BMW, Hyundai Genesis, Chrysler Pacifica, and Suzuki motorcycle all sustained severe damage and are considered total losses. Active Towing removed the three passenger vehicles from the crash scene, while the motorcycle was not towed and was instead released to its owner. The mobile home avoided structural damage, though it did sustain minor exterior damage to its siding and skirting. Several other miscellaneous items of private property were also damaged in the collision.

Following an investigation by the Watertown Police Department, authorities determined the driver was under the influence. He was arrested for Careless Driving (SDCL 32-24-8) and Driving Under the Influence (SDCL 32-23-1).

The Watertown Police Department concluded the release by reminding motorists that excessive speed and impaired driving dramatically increase the risk of injuries and serious crashes, urging the public to make responsible decisions and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
