Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - A Sioux Falls man was arrested late Monday night after allegedly leading Brookings County deputies on a high‑speed pursuit that reached speeds over 140 miles per hour, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop a 2020 Ford Mustang GT around 10:32 p.m. near Highway 30 and 477th Avenue east of White. The vehicle accelerated and quickly pulled out of sight.

About six minutes later, another deputy traveling north on 471st Avenue near Brookings clocked the Mustang at over 140 mph using radar. The deputy turned to pursue and saw the car run a red light at Highway 14 and 471st Avenue before turning east onto the Highway 14 bypass.

The Mustang eventually stopped near Stadium Road, north of South Dakota State University. The driver, Christian Hofer, 25, of Sioux Falls, admitted he had been driving too fast and told deputies he stopped because he was running out of gas.

Hofer was arrested on multiple charges, including traffic violations, drug offenses, and a weapons violation. He was booked into the Brookings County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, June 15, 2026.

Agencies assisting included the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Police Department, and South Dakota State University Police Department.
