Brookings County Rollover Crash on I-29 Leaves Two Evaluated for Injuries Near Mile Marker 140

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings, SD - Two people were evaluated for injuries Sunday afternoon after a single‑vehicle rollover on Interstate 29 near mile marker 140, according to a media release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:58 p.m. on August 9, prompting response from the Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Fire Department, Brookings Ambulance, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Deputies say a 2008 Ford F‑250 pulling a 2023 H&H dump trailer rolled into the ditch after investigators determined a trailer jack malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle was operated by Myrna Cruz Martinez, 58, of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Emergency crews rendered aid to Martinez and a passenger at the scene. Both were evaluated for unknown injuries and later released.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation.
