Brookings County Sheriff Investigates $800 Soybean Field Damage West of Brookings
Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case of intentional crop damage after a vehicle drove nearly half a mile through a soybean field west of Brookings earlier this month.
Deputies responded on September 9 at 4:47 p.m. after the landowner reported finding extensive damage in a field located on 466th Avenue near 203rd Street. According to the Sheriff’s Office, an unknown vehicle left the roadway sometime between September 2 and September 3, entered the field, and continued northbound before returning to the road.
Tracks left behind indicate the suspect vehicle may have traveled north after exiting the field. The landowner estimates the damage at approximately $800.
The Sheriff’s Office says the incident remains under investigation.
“Unknown suspect(s) had driven off the roadway and into the field… They drove through the field for nearly half a mile before returning to the roadway,” the release states.
