Brookings County Sheriff Investigates Hit-and-Run That Damaged Electrical Box Near 478th Avenue

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit‑and‑run incident that damaged an electrical box along 478th Avenue near 210th Street sometime between July 1 and July 9.


Deputies were called at 3:51 p.m. on July 9 after a damaged electrical line was reported in the area. According to the Sheriff’s Office, tire tracks in the ditch indicated an unknown vehicle left the roadway, struck an exposed electrical box, then backed into a nearby field before driving away in an unknown direction.


The total damage amount is still being determined. The case remains under investigation.


Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle in the ditch near 478th Avenue and 210th Street during the timeframe to contact the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office at 605‑696‑8300 or report anonymously through Brookings Area Crimestoppers via the mobile app or by calling 605‑692‑7867.
