Bruce Man Arrested After Highway 14 Pursuit Near Volga in Brookings County

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says a Bruce man was arrested Monday evening after an incident that began with reports of an agitated driver yelling at other motorists on U.S. Highway 14 and ended in a pursuit north of Volga.

According to a media release from Patrol Sergeant Manny Langstraat, the incident began around 5:20 p.m. when multiple drivers reported a man behaving erratically while traveling westbound between Brookings and Volga. At the Caspian Avenue stoplight, witnesses told deputies the driver exited his vehicle, reached into the back seat, and retrieved an object that appeared to be a weapon. One motorist immediately left the area and contacted law enforcement.

Deputies located the vehicle shortly afterward and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over. The Sheriff’s Office says the man fled north on 466th Avenue before reaching a residence on 207th Street.

Once at the home, deputies identified the driver as 31‑year‑old Skyler Leiferman of Bruce. After what the release describes as a struggle, Leiferman was taken into custody and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.

He is being held on charges including Eluding, DUI, Aggravated Assault, and Resisting Arrest, with bond set at $3,000 cash‑only.
