Castlewood Man Dies After Being Trapped Under Farm Equipment in Rural Hamlin County

Northeast Radio SD News – Castlewood, SD - A man died Wednesday afternoon after becoming trapped beneath a piece of farm equipment in rural Hamlin County, according to a media release from the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office.
Watertown Regional Dispatch received a 911 call at 3:05 p.m. reporting a male who had sustained injuries from an unknown incident. Sheriff’s deputies and Castlewood Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
The first deputy to arrive located an unresponsive male who had become trapped underneath a hay‑bine being pulled by a tractor. The equipment had struck a fence, and the man was pinned beneath it.
Additional emergency resources were requested, including the Castlewood Fire Department, Performance Heavy Tow, and Watertown ALS Ambulance. Emergency personnel worked to free the victim from the machinery. Once removed and cleared from the equipment, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office says the incident remains under investigation, and no further information is being released at this time.
In a statement, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
