Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown City Council has given its official support to two separate multifamily housing projects, intending to expand the community’s housing inventory.

The Council approved a resolution of support for an application for financial assistance to the South Dakota Housing and Development Authority (SDHDA) by Dakota Commons Reserve, LLC, and/or its affiliates, for a multifamily development.

City Manager Alan Stager addressed the Council, speaking about this resolution and another similar measure (Item 13F) concurrently. Stager explained that both resolutions formalize the city's backing of two developers planning multi-unit housing projects in Watertown.

The purpose of the resolutions is to convey the City Council's position that: simply

1.     The projects have the support of the city.

2.     There is a clear need for housing in the community.

3.     These projects are expected to help fill that need.

The developers intend to use the city's formal support as part of their applications for incentives through the State of South Dakota, which is currently making approximately $60 million in state housing funds available.

Stager explicitly clarified that the resolutions do not involve any financial commitment or obligation on the part of the City of Watertown; they are purely resolutions of support for the developers' grant applications.

The unanimous approval of the resolution signals the Council's recognition of the ongoing housing demand in Watertown and its willingness to assist developers in securing state funding to advance key residential projects.

Dakota Commons Reserve, LLC is known for Dakota Commons, a master-planned community that currently includes single-family and townhome residences in the northeastern part of Watertown.
