Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Spring is shaping up to be a busy season for Codington County’s youth, according to the monthly 4-H and Extension report delivered to the County Commissioners on Tuesday morning.
Jodi Loehrer, 4-H Youth Program Advisor, outlined a packed calendar for March, kicking off with a major fundraiser for the local shooting sports program.
“Our 4-H Shooting Sports spaghetti feed is on Sunday, March 8th at the Codington County Extension Complex,” Loehrer announced, noting the event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Loehrer noted that shooting sports continues to be a major draw for local youth, with practices held every Tuesday and Thursday night. “Many of our 4-H youth have been competing on weekends in shoots around the state,” she added.
To support the growing program, Loehrer announced that the 4-H Shooting Sports raffle has officially begun. Tickets are available directly from 4-H youth or at the Extension office.
Beyond local events, Codington County youth are making their mark on the national stage. Trysan Jones will join 13 other South Dakota 4-H members in Washington, D.C., for the Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) & Ignite 2026 Conference from March 24 through March 29.
The conference is designed to foster civic engagement among participants.
“CWF & Ignite will continue the mission of empowering teens to become informed and engaged citizens, while offering expanded opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and inspiration alongside peers from across the country,” Loehrer explained.
Local programming also includes a 4-H sewing workshop on Saturday, March 28, led by the Magic Needlers Quilt Guild. Loehrer also informed the board she would be attending the SD Association of Extension Professionals and 4-H Spring Conference in Rapid City from March 31 to April 2 as summer programming plans continue to take shape.
