Codington County 4-H Kicks Off New Year with Growing Enrollment and New Programs.

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Codington County 4-H is off to a strong start for the new program year, with growing participation across all age groups and several major events on the calendar.

Enrollment and re-enrollment for the new 4-H year, which began on October 1st, are still underway. The program has seen a positive surge in its youngest division:
· Clover Buds: The program for five, six, and seven-year-olds has already started, with approximately 50 Clover Buds registered and numbers continuing to grow. Activities are scheduled across Watertown and Waverly.
Commissioner Johnson, Commissioner Gabel, and Chairman VanDusen acknowledged the success of the recent 4-H recognition ceremony, with the Chairman noting it was a "well-run event" that meant a lot to the participating children…
Upcoming Events and Activities
4-H is preparing for a busy winter season, with both competitive programs and community outreach events:
· Shooting Sports: Registration will soon open for the 4-H Shooting Sports programs, including archery, BB gun, air pistol, and air rifle, with activities set to begin in January 2026. The air rifle team will also hold practices in December to prepare for ongoing competitions.
· Holiday Displays: Codington 4-H will have a display at the Watertown Optimist Club Winter Wonderland, which runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through December 21st.
· Community Foundation Fundraiser: 4-H will also participate in the Watertown Community Foundation's fundraiser by decorating a tree for display at the Watertown Regional Library.
Loehrer also informed the Commissioners that the organization is finalizing its annual county impact snapshot to highlight the year's programs and achievements for the state's Family and Consumer Sciences Unit (FCSU).
