Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Codington County Board of Commissioners officially canvassed and approved the vote totals for the 2026 Primary Election on Thursday.

Following the canvass, Auditor Brenda Hanten led a random draw to select precincts for the mandatory Post-Election Audit, which requires a manual count of at least 100 ballots for one federal race and one additional state or local race.

·        Federal Race: The U.S. Representative contest was selected. The Fuller/Florence precinct (92 ballots) and the Dexter precinct (24 ballots) were drawn to meet the 100-ballot manual count threshold.

·        State Race: The State Senator District 5 contest was chosen. The Graceland, Henry, and Henry V. precincts (80 ballots combined) were drawn, along with Dexter (24 ballots), to fulfill the audit requirement.

The Post-Election Audit is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., provided no recount petitions are filed beforehand under SDCL 12-17B-24
