Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown City Council approved a zoning change Monday night for a portion of the Prairie Hills Development, shifting the property from C‑2 Local Commercial District to R‑2 Single Family Attached Residential District to support new twin‑home construction.

Community Development Manager Brandi Hanten presented the request, directing the council to the vicinity map.

“This is a rezone request for a piece of property at the Prairie Hills Development First Addition,” Hanten said. “It’s currently zoned C‑2 local commercial district, and they are proposing to rezone it to R‑2 single-family attached residential for approximately one acre.”

Hanten noted that the surrounding zoning already supports attached housing.

“The adjacent zoning districts are also zoned R‑2 single-family attached residential,” she said. “This is in conformance with the comprehensive land use plan.”

Councilman Michael Heuer moved approval, seconded by Councilman Brent Mohrmann. The ordinance was passed unanimously by voice vote.
