Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - A new, multi-year construction project is set to begin in downtown Watertown near the former City Hall building. Weather permitting, demolition work, led by a private developer, is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, marking the start of a significant transformation for the area.
The project, which will take place at the former City Hall site, is expected to continue through February 2027. This ambitious timeline, while subject to unforeseen issues, points to a substantial investment in the city's core. According to previous reports, the site is slated for development of an Airstay Hotel, a project that would introduce new hospitality options to downtown.
To accommodate long-term construction, the north half of 2nd Street NE, between Kemp Avenue and 1st Avenue N, will experience extended closures throughout the project. The City of Watertown advises motorists to remain vigilant regarding all traffic control signs in the vicinity to ensure safety and a smooth flow around the work zone.
The City of Watertown also confirmed that access to adjacent businesses will be maintained at all times. This information is being shared to help residents plan and stay informed about the developing cityscape.
For any questions regarding the project, residents can contact the City of Watertown Engineering Division of the Public Works Department at (605) 882-6202.
