Deuel and Clark County 4-H Members Named to South Dakota National Teams for 2026 NAILE

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Several standout 4‑H members from Deuel and Clark counties have earned coveted spots on South Dakota’s 2026 National 4‑H Teams and will represent the state this fall at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Kentucky — the world’s largest all‑breed, purebred livestock show.

NAILE, founded in 1974 and now celebrating more than five decades of growth, is known for its iconic green shavings, world‑class competition, and deep ties to youth livestock development. The event brings together top exhibitors from across the nation, and South Dakota’s delegation includes exceptional local talent.

These youth will compete in hands‑on livestock knowledge challenges, identification stations, evaluation classes, and team problem‑solving — all core components of NAILE’s long tradition of developing future leaders in agriculture.

A Stage Steeped in History

The North American International Livestock Exposition traces its roots to the early 1970s, when Kentucky leaders stepped in after the closure of Chicago’s historic Union Stock Yards. The inaugural show in 1974 featured just five beef breeds; today, NAILE spans multiple species, international exhibitors, and major youth contests including the National 4‑H Livestock Judging Contest, Skill‑A‑Thon, and Quiz Bowl.

Over the decades, NAILE has added dairy, sheep, swine, goats, horses, llamas, alpacas, and even stock dog trials — all while maintaining its exhibitor‑focused mission. The event’s growth includes expansions of the Kentucky Exposition Center, the addition of the Saddle & Sirloin Portrait Gallery, and innovations such as live‑streamed shows and expanded youth education programs.
