Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - A driver was transported to Prairie Lakes hospital Monday afternoon following a collision with a deer on U.S. Highway 212.

Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) was dispatched to the scene near mile marker 369 at approximately 12:30 p.m. on October 20th after the vehicle's occupant reported injuries.

Upon arrival, Engine 3 and Medic 3 crews found a sedan on the shoulder of the westbound lane with significant front-end damage. While there were no fluids or debris on the roadway requiring cleanup, WFR personnel assisted in controlling traffic and providing patient assessment.

The sedan's driver was packaged by emergency medical personnel and transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation of their injuries.

Watertown Fire Rescue is reminding the public that deer activity is increasing as the area moves into late fall, which is a common time for deer-related incidents. The department urges all motorists to exercise caution, especially during dawn and dusk hours when deer are most active.

Drivers are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, remain vigilant, and avoid erratic swerving maneuvers to miss wildlife, as those actions can sometimes lead to more serious accidents.
