Driver Injured in New Year’s Night Rollover on Interstate 29

Northeast Radio SD News - White, SD - A single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 29 left one man seriously injured on the evening of New Year’s Day. The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at approximately 8:04 p.m. on Thursday near mile marker 144, just outside of White.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 28-year-old male from Milbank, SD, driving a 2001 Chevy Silverado, was traveling southbound when it struck a guardrail and entered the median. The vehicle subsequently rolled, coming to rest on its passenger side.
Deputies discovered an adult male occupant alert but trapped inside the truck.
Members of the Brookings Fire Department performed an extrication to remove him from the vehicle. He was initially transported by Brookings Ambulance to Brookings Hospital, but due to the serious nature of his injuries, he was later transferred to a hospital in Sioux Falls. His current condition has not been released.
The Silverado sustained disabling damage in the crash. Authorities also estimated the damage to the guardrail system at approximately $57,000.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Brookings Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance.
