Elkton Man Facing Multiple Felony Charges for Child Exploitation

Northeast Radio SD News – Elkton, SD - A 51-year-old Elkton man is in custody following an investigation into the manufacture of child pornography involving a concealed camera.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office began its investigation on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, after receiving information regarding inappropriate videos of a juvenile female discovered on a Google account. Upon reviewing the footage, investigators determined the videos had been recorded using a concealed camera hidden inside a bathroom.
Following an interview with the victim, authorities identified the location of the recordings. Investigators noted that while the suspect and the victim were known to each other, they are not related.
As a result of the investigation, Clayton Thompson of Elkton was arrested and faces the following charges:
· Five counts of Manufacturing Child Pornography (Class 2 Felony)
· Five counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor (Class 6 Felony)
Thompson was booked into the Brookings County Detention Center, where he is currently being held on a $50,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 20, 2026, at 1:30 PM.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office states that the investigation remains ongoing.
