Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - A Watertown woman has died following a tragic incident on Monday, November 24, 2025. Her vehicle entered and became fully submerged in a pond in the 200 block of Challenger Way Southeast.


The Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, Codington County Emergency Management, and Codington County Search and Rescue were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:52 a.m.

When emergency responders arrived, they worked quickly to assess the situation. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Brianna Mahaffy of Watertown, was trapped inside her vehicle. Rescuers managed to extricate her from the submerged vehicle at approximately 10:47 a.m.


Brianna was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, she passed away later that evening due to the severity of her injuries.
