Fatal Accident in Watertown: Driver Dies After Vehicle Enters Pond

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - A Watertown woman has died following a tragic incident on Monday, November 24, 2025, after her vehicle entered and became fully submerged in a pond in the 200 block of Challenger Way Southeast.


The Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, Codington County Emergency Management, and Codington County Search and Rescue were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:52 a.m.


The driver, identified as 41-year-old Brianna Mahaffy of Watertown, was extricated from the submerged vehicle at approximately 10:47 a.m. She was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with life-threatening injuries but passed away later that evening as a result of the incident.


The Watertown Police Department extended its condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic event. The department stated that no additional updates are anticipated at this time unless new information becomes available.
