Fatal Crash Claims Life of Pedestrian in Hughes County

Northeast Radio SD News – Hughes County, SD - A pedestrian was struck and killed in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 34 in Hughes County, South Dakota, late Sunday evening.
The incident occurred at 8:43 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, near mile marker 231 on Highway 34.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety indicates that a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country was traveling westbound when it struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as a 23-year-old female from Kennebec, S.D., was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the minivan, a 27-year-old male from Rock Valley, I.A., sustained no injuries in the crash.
The names of the individuals involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Officials stressed that all information released is only preliminary as the investigation continues.
The Highway Patrol operates as an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
