Fatal Motorcycle Crash Reported East of Rapid City

Northeast Radio SD News – Rapid City, SD - A Rapid City man has died following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash that occurred Friday evening on South Dakota Highway 44, approximately eight miles east of Rapid City.
According to preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash took place at 5:19 p.m. on Friday, September 19, near mile marker 58. The driver, a 53-year-old male from Rapid City, was operating a 1994 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide when a deer entered the roadway. The rider was unable to avoid the animal and collided with it.
He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died Sunday morning as a result of those injuries. Authorities confirmed that no helmet was in use at the time of the crash.
The name of the individual has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol, a division of the Department of Public Safety, is continuing to investigate. Officials note that all details released at this time are preliminary.
