Fatal Single-Vehicle Rollover Reported in Grant County

Northeast Radio SD News - Ortley, SD - A 33-year-old man from Summit, South Dakota, died Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash in Grant County.


The accident occurred at approximately 12:24 p.m. on February 7, 2026, at the intersection of 452nd Avenue and 147th Street, roughly six miles southeast of Ortley.


According to preliminary reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on 452nd Avenue. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and partially entered the east ditch. Officials state the driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll before coming to rest in the west ditch.


The driver, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.


The name of the deceased has not yet been released as authorities work to notify family members.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
