Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) responded to a residential structure fire on Tuesday evening, successfully containing the blaze primarily to the room of origin and preventing further damage throughout the home.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., WFR crews, including Battalion 1, Engine 4, Engine 1, and Medic 4, arrived at the single-family residence. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames visible from a bedroom window. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack.
The crew's quick response and action confined the fire primarily to a bedroom, where it is believed to have started, and an adjacent hallway, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the house.
All human occupants were safely accounted for upon the arrival of WFR. However, a loss occurred as a family cat was found deceased during a secondary search of the home. The family's dog survived the incident. No injuries were reported among the residents or firefighters.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Watertown Fire Rescue received assistance at the scene from the Watertown Police Department, which managed traffic control, and Watertown Utilities.
A family member confirmed that fundraising information is expected to be available later this morning and will be shared with Northeast Radio SD so that we can share it with the public.
